What the studio is

Project IGI Studio is a mission maker for Project I.G.I.: I'm Going In (2000). You lay out a mission on a map that looks like the game's own map computer: guards and their patrols, snipers in towers, cameras and alarms, objectives, weapons to pick up, new buildings and fences, even the shape of the ground. Press Apply and the studio builds the mission and puts it into the game, under its own name, next to the fourteen original missions.

A mission open in the studio: the Military Airbase, its guards with their view cones, cameras, objectives and the ground

What you can do with it

  • Start from any of the 14 missions. Take a full copy of one (every guard, building and objective) or just its map, empty, and build your own on it.
  • Place and edit guards. Soldiers, snipers, officers and more, with their weapon and model. Draw their patrol routes on the walkways and see what each of them can see.
  • Set the objectives. Eliminate a guard, collect a weapon, reach an area, hack a terminal, destroy something, or keep the level's own objectives. Add events: when this happens, that happens.
  • Wire up security. Cameras that sweep, alarm buttons, sirens, lights, and guards who answer the alarm or arrive as reinforcements.
  • Shape the land. Level, raise, lower, smooth and ramp the ground, paint what it is made of, and place any of nearly 300 buildings, towers, fences and props from every level.
  • Look at it in 3D. A close-up of any spot with the game's own models and textures, to fly or walk around before you play.
  • Ask the AI designer. Say what you want in plain words, and it builds it on the map while you watch. Every change is yours to keep or undo.

How it works, in short

A mission in the studio is a base plus a plan. The base is one of the original missions. The plan is every change you make. When you apply, the studio builds the whole mission again from the untouched base and your plan, compiles it with its own compiler, and installs it into a slot of its own in the game: mission 15, 16 and so on. Applying twice gives the same result, and nothing you applied can be lost: to change it, change the plan and apply again.

The original missions are never touched

The studio writes only into its own mission slots. The fourteen original missions, the game's shared files and its install stay exactly as they were. Before it writes anything, it keeps a checked reference copy of what it builds from.

What you need

  • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
  • Your own copy of Project I.G.I.: I'm Going In, installed. The studio does not include the game or any of its files.
  • For the AI designer only: an OpenAI API key (or another compatible provider).

Where to go next

  1. Install the studio.
  2. Connect your game, which takes a minute or two the first time.
  3. Make your first mission and play it.
